Welcome to the Book Blog!

The purpose of this blog is to share and discuss books. As I read, and I don’t have as much time as I would like, I will post comments, thoughts and reactions to the different books I read. I will admit I prefer fantasy and science fiction over other genres, but I will do my best to read a wide variety of books. Your comments are welcome, and I encourage you to share your thoughts even if they differ from mine. I will attempt to begin with comments about books I have read since the beginning of the 2009-2010 school year, but not tonight. It is past my bedtime. ![]()

I picked up a copy of this book last spring at the Texas Library Association’s annual conference. (I got an autographed copy.
) I didn’t get around to reading it until August, but in spite of the fact that I prefer so many other types of books over realistic fiction, I really liked it a lot. Frankie Torres Towers is just trying to stay out of trouble while watching his older brother get more and more mixed up in trouble, potentially ruining his chances of earning a college scholarship. I loved the relationships between the characters. Frankie was very genuine, insightful, and endearing as well as a bit frustrating at times. I did get pretty ticked off at him when he was making what I considered a poor choice towards the end of the story. All in all, I really liked Frankie, caring about his future. THE COMPOUND by S. A. Bodeen
This book is one of the Texas Lonestars. I bought it last spring, but did not get around to reading it until school was starting this year. If you think being the kid of a billionaire would be really awesome, think again. What if your billionaire dad was really psycho, but you didn’t realize it until you discover what he has done for your protection is really some very sick experiment? I hope I haven’t given too much of the book away, but this book has the potential to creep you out. Since I like this kind of creeping-out in a story, I really liked this book. The story moved quickly, keeping me engaged throughout. What really appealed to me was the main character learning who he could and could not trust and what to do about his discoveries. Bizarre circumstances (billionaire dad and living in an underground compound), but very real problems (who do I trust and when do I take a stand) we all confront on the journey to maturity make this a good, fairly quick read.
