It has certainly been a long time, friends, since I last updated you on our class blog. We have been hard at work on Math, Science, and Technology. We are half way through the school year. Some of us will be graduating soon, a feat that is uncomparable to others! Until then, we have more work to do…. make sure to tell your parents of the upcoming trips we have planned. For instance, next week, we will learn how to open a checking and savings account at a local bank. This is a life skill that is extremely important to know! Until then……

So, What Have We Done in Class Lately?

This 6 weeks in Math, we have been studying Money. We have begun to work on counting money with and without calculators in various sums. Some students are still working on counting by 1’s, 5’s, and 10’s consistently, while other students are able to add or count money up to $100. We will continue this theme throughout the year in order to develop their skill, as well as teach basic budgeting and living skills. Students will learn to keep a checkbook or checking account, and make “real-world” purchases. Thank you for working with your student at home on this as well.
This six weeks in Science, we have been learning about basic cells and heredity. I have been quite pleased with how much the students have learned thus far. We will continue these topics through the remainder of the six weeks, and ultimatley learn about human systems. We are having fun in this class!
Technology has been a fun class. We have worked hard on copying text accurately, learning the various systems of Word, writing original texts on various subjects, and learning to write informal letters. The students are also working to increase their typing times with fewer errors. If you have a computer at home, please help them work on these skills by just having them type something on Word. Thank you!

All school supplies should be at school by now. I have been helping your student organize their work, thereby organizing the information that goes into their brain! You can do the same by helping with these tips: 1) Remind your student to come to school/class prepared each day with paper, notebook, and pencil. 2) Make sure your student eats a good breakfast in the morning. 3) To avoid hassles in the morning and running to the bus, lay clothing and supplies out at night. 4) Communicate with your student’s teacher(s) and your student. 5) Help your student stay organized with their notebooks by supplying dividers and highlighters. he

Well, we made it through the first week of school together! I hope you had as much fun as I did finding classes, learning your schedule, and settling back into the daily routine of school. We had a great time learning new procedures, ways of doing work, and getting to know one another. Your ideas for science and math were great; your hard work in all classes on pre-tests and assessments were outstanding. I know this is a preminition for the work to come from each of you this year!
