Hello,

We just started a new six weeks…or should I say 5 weeks……and we are still reading Nothing But the Truth and working on our persuasive speeches.  At some point before the Christmas break, the students will be presenting their persuasive speeches to the administrators here on campus.  I would like to invite any parents that can attend.  I will give you more details as we get closer.  Right now it is hard to gage when we will be ready!  I would love to have some of you come listen to their speeches.

This week we are having our first checkpoint for the year.  It will be a test grade.  We are also starting back up on vocabulary and grammar.

Monday – Vocab/Grammar lesson

Tuesday – Conference about speeches and discuss book

Wednesday – Checkpoint

Thursday – continue conferencing about speeches and work on rewrites

Friday – Vocab quiz and finish conferencing on speeches.

We have yet been able to make our presentation for the Anti-bullying campaign.  There have been many technical issues with putting together the film that the kids worked so hard on.  We may have to make the presentation without it and show it at a later time.  I know they will be disappointed, but I am still working on it.

Hope you all have a great week!

If you would like to earn some extra credit, then I have an opportunity for  you.   Click on the link below this that says “No Comments” or “Comments. “  Type your sentences in the box below and click submit comment.  You must include your FULL name (first and last) and if you don’t have an email address, I can get you one through Gaggle, but YOU have to let me know.

Write meaningful sentences for 5 of the  vocabulary words. They MUST be meaningful to count.  Remember, a meaningful sentence contains the definition of the word, a synonym of the word, or an antonym of the word.  Don’t forget to put the word in there also!!!!!!

To receive credit, it must be posted by Tuesday of that week before 3:30pm.  I WILL NOT ACCEPT POSTINGS AFTER TUESDAY AT 3:30PM.  Each posting is worth 10 points.  At the end of the six weeks, I will add the total amount of points received to your lowest Vocabulary Quiz grade.  So, if you earn 30 points and lowest grade you made  was a 70 on a Vocabulary Quiz, then I will add the 30 points to that quiz for a 100.

Good luck and happy writing!

The kids have been working really hard the past couple of weeks creating their Anti-Bullying campaign.  They have created a script which we will begin filming this week.  They have created posters, a webpage template, a survey, and are planning how they are going to present it.  I can’t wait to see the finished product.

There will be no grammar this week, but there is vocab.  I have given out the new list and it is also on the Vocab page on here.  Look on the right side under Pages.

I hope the kids are enjoying the class as much as I am.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

Have a great week.

Hello,

This year has started off great.  I am really enjoying all the kids in this class.

We started off the week with Literary Element notes, and vocabulary.  Tuesday we read The Dinner Party and developed a plot chart as a class.  We also talked about protagonist and antagonist.    Wed. we are going to read Contents of a Deadman’s Pocket and analyze it together.  Thurs. we will read The Lottery. Friday we will have a vocabulary test, and finish The Lottery.

If you are not purchasing books from KMS,  please make sure your student has The Truth About Truman School by next Wednesday, Sept. 9.  We are going to begin reading that quickly.  If you cannot purchase books, please let me know, so I can make sure your student has one to borrow.

Have a great week and please feel free to email me if you have questions or concerns.
